Morsi Addresses Country Following Ittihadeya Protests

As clashes continued between demonstrators supporting and opposing President Muhammad Morsi outside the Ittihadeya Presidential Palace, 10 have been reported dead, 748 have been injured, and 49 anti-Morsi protestors have been detained. Both sides have reportedly claimed (PDF) that the dead were protesting on their behalf. As a result of the escalating violence, the presidential guard deployed additional tanks to the Palace complex, and a total of six advisors to the President have tendered their resignations.

Morsi addressed the nation today surrounding the clashes outside of the Ittihadiya Presidential palace. In his address, Morsi referenced “confessions” from detained protesters that they were “hired thugs, that they possessed weapons, and that they had received money to attack the Presidential Palace.”
