TIMEP Announces Launch of Bassem Sabry Fellowship in Partnership with Atlas Corps

WASHINGTON, DC – The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) is honored to announce the launch of the Bassem Sabry Fellowship, a six-month residential fellowship program aimed at supporting native Middle Eastern and North African writers and analysts who have demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of democratic and inclusive change. This fellowship is offered in partnership with Atlas Corps, a leader in international exchange fellowships.

TIMEP established the Bassem Sabry Fellowship in May 2014 in honor of the late Egyptian commentator. The fellowship is intended for young Middle Eastern and North African writers and analysts working in journalism, international relations, political science, or other relevant fields who have shown a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of democratic and inclusive change—the values Sabry promoted during his lifetime.

Fellows will be hosted for a period of six months at TIMEP’s office in the District of Columbia (DC), where they will work with a TIMEP mentor to complete an independent research project or paper. Fellows will serve as an integral part of the TIMEP team and will have ample opportunity to network and meet with regional experts based in Washington, DC. Fellows will also receive professional development training under the direction of Atlas Corps and its Global Leadership Labs initiatives. The fellowship will cover all travel expenses and will also provide a living stipend for the duration of the fellowship. The first TIMEP-Atlas Corps Bassem Sabry Democracy Fellow will be announced on April 29, 2015—the one-year anniversary of Bassem Sabry’s passing.

For more information about the fellowship or to apply, please visit the Bassem Sabry Fellowship page. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until February 2, 2015. All qualified submissions will be considered in accordance with the criteria set forth in the application.

In order to promote the longevity of the Bassem Sabry Fellowship, TIMEP has created an endowment to maintain and manage donations for the fellowship fund in perpetuity. It is thanks to the generosity of its donors that the Bassem Sabry Fellowship is able to advance the work of its fellows. If you are interested in donating to the Bassem Sabry fellowship fund, please contact Sara Abdel Rahim at [email protected].
