Sarah Hamza is a Nonresident Fellow at TIMEP focusing on documentation and justice in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She is also the institute’s 2025-2026 Sarah Hegazi Fellow. Sarah is a human rights defender and data scientist with over 13 years of experience working across the MENA region. She integrates legal research, data systems, and advocacy to document human rights violations, support strategic litigation, and preserve collective memory in repressive contexts. Her work has focused on enforced disappearances, torture, the death penalty, arbitrary detention, and civic space repression. Sarah has led over 50 projects designing open-source databases, building qualitative and quantitative indicators, and developing long-term documentation strategies. She has held senior roles with both international and local organizations across the MENA region. Her work bridges technical expertise with grassroots knowledge, transforming complex data into accessible, actionable tools for justice. She also brings strong skills in data visualization and analysis, complementing her work across advocacy, litigation, and research.
