Activist Alaa Abdel Fattah Arrested at Home


Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah was arrested from his home at 10:00 p.m. this evening for allegedly inciting violent protests in Cairo the previous Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Abdel Fattah was charged in connection with last week’s protest against military rule and the government crackdown on the opposition. He was charged with the assault of policemen, carrying weapons, participating in robbery, and disturbing the peace. Despite his publicly declared decision to turn himself in, the police stormed his home, beat him and his wife, stole their mobile phones and laptops, and finally arrested him.
