Amanpour Interviews Mubarak

Amid the ongoing protests nationwide, Christiane Amanpour interviewed President Hosni Mubarak. In the interview, Mubarak justified his staying in office, claiming that “If [he resigns] today, there will be chaos. The Muslim Brotherhood would take over.”

Egypt’s prosecutor general banned numerous ex-ministers from travelling abroad and froze their assets to prevent them from leaving the country. Habib al-Adly, Ahmed el-Maghrabi, and Zuhair Garana, along with Ahmed Ezz, a prominent NDP member, were placed under the ban “until national security is restored and the authorities and monitoring bodies have undergone their investigations.”
