43 Indicted Following NGO Raids

Egyptian officials announced that “43 NGO workers, including 19 Americans, have been referred for trial for alleged involvement in banned activity and illegally receiving foreign funds.” In addition to the 19 Americans, seven Europeans and three non-Egyptian Arabs have been detained, who have all been denied the ability to leave the country.

This announcement came the day after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton indicated that American aid and other assistance to Egypt could be placed in jeopardy by these recent actions.
