Final Stage of Parliamentary Elections Begins in Remaining Governorates

The first day of the final stage of parliamentary voting began on Tuesday. The voting in this stage occurred in the governorates of Qalyubia, Gharbia, Dakahlia, Minya, Qena, North Sinai, South Sinai, New Valley and Matruh. Areas such as Gharbia and Dakahlia have long been considered Muslim Brotherhood strongholds.

Turnout was reported as moderate, and isolated violations were reported in Dakahlia, Matruh, and the city of Qena. Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter issued a statement that he will join an election monitoring team from the Carter Center which had been in Egypt since mid-November 2011 to observe the parliamentary elections.
