Today saw the second stage of the Shura Council elections, with all required run-off elections being held. There were reports that security forces intervened in electoral processes on behalf of members or candidates of President Hosni Mubarak’s National Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP came away with 80 seats out of the 88 total being contested, with four opposition parties winning one seat each and four independents winning seats.
