Workers Strike in Mahalla

In Mahalla, workers rallied across the city to protest the diesel fuel crisis and President Morsi’s lack of action. Bus and taxi drivers blocked roads on Al-Bahr Street, Al-Shoon Square and other main roads and railways to completely obstruct traffic in Mahalla.

Some media outlets claimed that “the diesel crisis in the city has been caused by the theft of diesel from fuel stations to be sold on the black market.” However, others reported that there was not enough fuel to satisfy the demand, causing fights at fuel stations while hired “thugs” were secretly selling fuel on the black market.

A Mahalla resident claimed that “no taxis, no microbuses, and almost no cars are seen on the streets of Mahalla today. Even roads leading to Mahalla are blocked. No one would be able to come here today.”
