Protesters Storm Alexandria State Security Headquarters

Protesters in Alexandria gathered outside and then entered the state security headquarters in an attempt to recover documents proving past abuses by the security forces. Protestors first demanded that officers exit the building, threatening otherwise to storm inside to prevent what was believed to be the ongoing “shredding and burning [of] documents” detailing decades of abuse. Protesters had reportedly thrown Molotov cocktails at police, who responded by firing live ammunition at the protesters.

Several injuries were reported before riot police intervened to establish control of the scene.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces announced that a national referendum would be held on March 19 to vote on the proposed amendments to the Egyptian Constitution revealed on February 26.
