Protesters in Cairo Enter State Security Headquarters

Following the similar event in Alexandria yesterday, protesters in Cairo today stormed the central offices of the state security forces in an attempt to “seiz[e] documents to keep them from being destroyed to hide evidence of human rights abuses.” Footage from the incident shows a crowd chanting against the agency before revealing people walking around inside. The 500,000-strong  internal security agency, which represents a strong symbol of the Mubarak’s repressive regime, “was given a free hand by emergency laws under Mubarak” to keep order. Consequently, “protesters are demanding the agency be dismantled and its leaders be put on trial.”

Reportedly, 2,500 protestors barged into the Cairo headquarters in search of detainees and documents. Army officers attempted to stop the protesters, though they did not use force.
