First Day of Parliamentary Elections

The first day of the first round of the parliamentary elections were held today. While the day was broadly described as peaceful, state-run television reported that 25 people were injured, and the head of the election committee reported that 700 complaints were filed. The polls were ultimately held open two hours longer than initially announced to accommodate the large number of Egyptians who turned out to vote.
