A paper slip bearing the name of Bishop Tawadros was chosen from a jar containing slips with his name and those of the two other final candidates for the position of Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Tawadros and the other candidates had been selected by a vote on October 29; by tradition, the final decision is made by a blindfolded boy, who selects one of the names randomly. Tawadros will be formally installed as Pope Tawadros II on November 18.
