Sisi Promoted to Field Marshal, as authorized by SCAF

After Interim President Adly Mansour announced that presidential elections would be held before parliamentary elections, the Presidential Electoral Commission (PEC) announced that Army General Abdel-Fattah El Sisi should consider it “a mandate and an obligation” to run for president. Prior to the PEC’s statement, Interim President Mansour officially promoted Sisi from his position as general to field marshal, the highest position in the military. Although Sisi initially announced that he would not be seeking further power when former-President Muhammad Morsi was deposed from office, he has recently indicated that if the military and the Egyptian people announced their approval and desire for his candidacy, he would likely run for office.
