Anti-SCAF Protests Continue Amid Ongoing Election Uncertainty

Members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other political groups continued their Tahrir Square sit-in today, reflecting “fears that Egypt’s military rulers were plotting to hijack presidential election results” in favor of Ahmed Shafiq, the final prime minister under ousted President Hosni Mubarak. Demonstrators also voiced their broader distrust in the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which recently took steps towards expanding its control over Egypt’s political future. Among the demands of the protestors were that the military cede the legislative authority it had accorded itself since the court-ordered dissolution of parliament.

There were no reports of violence at the protests today.
