Anti-Morsi Demonstrators Ransack Brotherhood Offices

In a new round of protests, thousands of anti-Morsi activists clashed with Muslim Brotherhood supporters outside of Brotherhood offices nationwide. Three Brotherhood offices were looted in Cairo, Alexandria and Muhalla. Those attacking the Brotherhood offices claim that their actions are in retaliation for violence directed at journalists and demonstrators outside of the Brotherhood’s Cairo headquarters last week. About 40 demonstrators on both sides suffered injuries, though no deaths were reported.

With vigilante violence increasing across the country, the civil unrest that started in late January shows little sign of abating for any significant period of time. Anti-Morsi demonstrators have also expressed fear that the Muslim Brotherhood may be attempting to monopolize government power due to the fact that the group was banned from political life and repressed during Mubarak’s rule.
