On November 06, 2013, the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters dismissed an appeal that was “brought by a lawyer from the leftist Tagammu party” in September 2013 concerning the freezing of all Muslim Brotherhood assets. The dismissal marks a continuation in the pattern of systematic state repression faced by the Muslim Brotherhood in the wake of the July 3 coup that deposed former President Muhammad Morsi. In response to the court’s rejection of the appeal, Muslim Brotherhood member and defense lawyer Faisal al-Sayyed vowed to continue to appeal the ruling “until we banish this law.” Al-Sayyed lamented what he called a lack of “respect for the law,” but expressed optimism that the banning could be reversed with increased pressure from Muslim Brotherhood supporters
