Syria: Setting the Agenda

On May 18, 2021, join the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) for a virtual discussion where panelists will highlight, unpack, and propose a dynamic Syria agenda.

As the news headlines turn away from Syria once again, following attention around the ten year anniversary of the Syrian uprising and the Brussels V Conference, what issues should policymakers be prioritizing on Syria? On May 18, 2021, the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) convened a panel of Syrian experts and advocates to weigh in for “Syria: Setting the Agenda,” a virtual discussion with TIMEP nonresident fellows Suhail al-Ghazi, Noor Hamadeh, and Diana Rayes; and Joumana Seif of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, moderated by Amnesty International’s Rawya Rageh.

Together, the panelists highlighted, unpacked, and proposed a dynamic Syria agenda, looking to the economic, humanitarian, and human rights conditions inside Syria; the lived experiences of refugees and those in diaspora; questions of bilateral policymaking; and prospects for accountability. Looking to these issues, the discussion provided a sobering, yet solutions-oriented analysis of the realities, challenges, and opportunities on the ground.
