Inès Jaibi is a former Nonresident Fellow at TIMEP focusing on legislation, governance, and the rule of law in Tunisia. She is a lawyer and a civil society activist dedicated to defending freedom of expression, both in public and digital spaces, in Tunisia. She is the founder of Lab 117, an initiative dedicated to monitoring the presidential decrees and public policies issued in Tunisia under the state of exception imposed since July 25, 2021. As part of her work, she has published an impact study of Decree No. 54 (known as the Cybercrime Law) and a legal guide to raise awareness about expression in the digital space. She has frequent appearances in the media and has published various articles about the situation of freedom of expression in Tunisia. She holds an LLM in Common Law with a focus on the UN’s role in intra- state conflict and an MA in Media Studies with a focus on conspiracy theories. Formerly, she worked for five years as coordinator of Eyes on Law, a project that focused on legislative reforms and informed citizens about the legislative process.
