Nada Nashat is a Nonresident Fellow at TIMEP focusing on women, rights, and accountability in Egypt. Her mandate is focused on carving a path toward legal and policy reform that delivers on justice for women on issues including sexual violence, personal status, and the protection of socioeconomic rights. Nada is currently the head of the Women’s Public Participation Program at the Center for Egyptian Women’s Legal Assistance (CEWLA). The program promotes economic and social rights, supports the feminist movement, analyzes the effect of climate change from a gender perspective, focuses on the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and pushes for international advocacy. Nada has been CEWLA’s advocacy coordinator for the past 10 years. She has given lectures as a guest speaker on the situation of women’s rights in Egypt at universities including Harvard University, State University of New York, Columbia University, Northeastern University, and the American University in Cairo. Nada’s writing and research has been published in several local and international outlets and institutions including Al Shorouk newspaper, Musawah international movement, and Fredrisch Ebert Stiftung. Nada holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and a Bachelor’s degree in Law, as well as a Master’s degree on Gender and Development from Cairo University, where she focused on justice and accountability, and on the internal investigation committees in civil society organizations.
